For the Interpreters of Unseen Things.

How Of Light & Dust came to be.

Archetypes help us situate ourselves in the world, and from there beautiful mythologies can arise. That is the Tarot. A place of gathering for myths, seemingly disparate, into a dimension that disobeys time and space, borders and tongues. Of Light & Dust is my attempt to add a facet to that dimension, to re-introduce an ancient cast of characters—our ancestors, idols, ghosts, and gods—who have helped navigate us through light and shadow.

The love affair between light and shadow, night and day, the visible and the unseen.

The Grays.

I drew the original illustrations for Of Light & Dust with graphite on sheets of frosted mylar. The absence of color in the deck is deliberate, as it is my way of translating light and shadow onto paper. In each card you will travel between black and white through a spectrum of grays. I use these shades to describe the four elements; earth, water, air, and fire, as we embody them and they us

The Of Light & Dust deck comes with a booklet containing images of each card, accompanied by a verse written by the artist.

“I have always loved history. And magic.

But for a long time I thought the two were at odds with one another. This deck was made in the moment that they made a truce and began thinking of themselves as co-conspirators.”
